I liked this book for many reasons: it presented seeds in a way that i feel is approachable to children and I liked that it included more than typical seeds. There was additional text to read with facts on most pages. There was more text in this book than the egg book which means this book is not appropriate for preschool whereas I do use the egg book with preschoolers. I also felt the increase in text, though being very educational, took away from focusing on the images and comparing the seeds. Some of the larger seeds were cut off on the edges of the page so you could not tell their true size in order to make room for the text. I also took off one star because the cursive font (the main text for the book) was difficult for the children to read and they needed help. If you use the book with children 7+ who have been taught cursive, then this book should be fine.

Love these books. Great information and gorgeous illustrations. The artwork captures the attention of children (and adults). The illustrator deserves high praise — she’s a rock star! Author is as well. Though I love the entire series, this one — A Seed is Sleepy, and A Rock is Lively, are my personal favorites. Waiting for A Beetle is Shy to come out in paperback as I can’t wait to add that one to my collection — from the few pages available to view, looks like it may become my favorite of them all.

I bought all four of the books in this collection for my children recently and I am so happy with the purchase. They are all beautifully illustrated and filled with interesting facts. I homeschool my children, ages 2,3,7, and 10 and I love that these books are able to interest all of them. The larger text is simple enough to teach my 2 and 3 year olds the basics of how plants grow, while my older children enjoy the details in the smaller text and have fun pointing out the plants and seeds they are familiar with. Everyone loves the gorgeous pictures and I like to display these books alongside our nature shelves. These books are certainly what Charlotte Mason would call "living books" and are a great jumping off point for nature walks and journaling.

Great illustrations. Love the variety of seeds and the beautiful, colorful, detailed drawings. I have read both versions of this book, and the printed book experience is infinitely superior to the kindle version. Share this wonderful book (and the others in this series, especially the egg book) with your children, but make sure you purchase the non-electronic version. This is a book to be savored that invites repeat viewings. Suitable for all ages.

This book has it all. Beautiful artwork, accurate and accessible content, and a poetic style. It also contains tier 2 descriptive vocabulary associated with the seeds, plus a drawing of the parts of a seed. It makes a great read aloud engagement for my science lesson on engineering a seed that can 'fly'. This book would work for primary to older students. I just wish I could locate actual samples of some of the more unusual seeds mentioned.

I think this series of books is amazing. I made the mistakeof buying it on kindle so everything's tiny and I have to zoom in to see any details. Afterwards, I ordered the other ones in paper back and hard back.

My three year old daughter loves reading this book. It's filled with beautiful botanical drawings and is an excellent intro into the wonderful world of botany. I would say that my child had pre existing interest in the natural world so this book might be a stretch for kids without interest.

Very sweet book that has a solid educational message. The illustrations are so beautiful!
