About the Author
Kathryn MacCluskie is an Associate Professor of Counselor Education at Cleveland State University. She completed her undergraduate work and Masters in Rehabilitation Counseling at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. Following several years working with youth in residential treatment, she earned an Ed.D. in Counseling Psychology from West Virginia University. Dr. MacCluskie served as the Drug and Alcohol Program Coordinator at Morgantown Federal Correctional Institution, and then worked as a therapist in a community mental health center. She joined the faculty at Cleveland State in 1994, and in addition to leading the Counselor Education section, also served as Chair of the Institutional Review Board for Human Subjects. Her professional interests lie in counseling student growth and development, and the interface between mental health and global sustainability.

I dropped class and would like to return/refund and that doesn't seem to be an option like it would be on rented or purchased hard copy books.
The book is about the way you train to become a counselor. It teaches you micro skills that you did not learn while studying theories. It goes into how to sit with your client, make eye contact, how to fix your office,...etc. Good book.
This is a wonderful, easy read, introductory book for counseling students. It is laid out in a format that is easy to understand and keep up with and offers extremely relevant information for those studying to be in the counseling field. Wonderful book by an even more wonderful author!!
The book is loaded with valuable counseling information and organized in a useful manner although there was no CD ROM. There are many references to supplemental materials and videos that I am sure would improve the vast knowledge base of the counseling styles and theories we are suppose to learn. To see an example of what the book states in print should have been augmented with the ROM. It was not discounted due to not having full packaging.Janey

I bought this for a counseling class, but I will definitely hang on to it. Unlike most textbooks this book is so easy to read and has such useful information!
